Welcome to Hampstead

Peaceful, family-friendly community with an affluent, executive history and large homes

Only 445 acres, Hampstead is a small treasure of a town that serves as a peaceful and rural haven away from the busy parts of Montreal. Nicknamed the “Garden City,” residents walk daily among an abundance of lush green space and canopied streets within an urban environment. The beloved on-island suburb is just the right size, being quaint enough that the community is cozy and close-knit but just large enough to offer spacious living perks and features. Once a golf course, the neighborhood now comprises gorgeous homes that sit atop large lots boasting roomy yards and plenty of living and play space, both inside and out. Hampstead was created with families in mind - its roads designed with curves to slow down traffic and create an intimate, unique landscape. Perfect for couples and families of all sizes looking to plant roots, Hampstead is a wonderful and enchanting place to begin a new chapter in life.

People & Lifestyle

With no retail shops within the municipal boundaries, Hampstead is a fully residential community. The nook-of-a-community offers safe streets and a small-town setting, which has taken care to maintain its distinct character and avoid commercial expansion and zoning. The suburb draws families from all over the area for its space and community factor. The municipality is almost completely composed of single-family residences with only a few apartment buildings, duplexes, and triplexes on Côte-Saint-Luc Road and a handful of other roads. Around the neighborhood, you’ll find residents playing or getting active in the local parks and recreational areas. No matter where they are, residents create close bonds that are cherished forever. Accessible by STM bus lines, you can get to where you need to go from Hampstead via public transportation or car.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Nearby are some fantastic eateries that are local go-to spots. Restaurant Mamma Mia Pizzeria has all the Italian eats your heart desires, and Yia Sou Greek Grill is a well-rated place for Greek fare. Craving pho? Pho 88 is around the corner and offers excellent Vietnamese plates. For a healthy meal, stop by Bowled for yummy fruit, protein, and green-filled bowls.

Things to Do

There is a plethora of greenery to see and soak in in Hampstead! You can take advantage of the walking path network, which takes you throughout the beautiful Hampstead neighborhood. The pedestrian-friendly path connects Councillors, Applewood, and Hampstead parks. The latter is the community’s biggest park, offering a public pool, two basketball courts, two baseball fields, ten tennis courts, soccer fields, a beach volleyball court, and a play area and splash pad for children. In the winter, two ice rinks are built for skating and hockey from December to March. The Irving L. Adessky Community Centre within Hampstead Park is the hub for local events, activities, sports programs, sociocultural programs, and Town Council Meetings. The rental facilities are perfect for birthday parties, events, and meetings. Even more exciting is Hampstead Day, which occurs at the beginning of each summer and features a small carnival, thrilling fireworks, food vendors, play areas and activities, and more fun adventures.

Schools

Hampstead has only one only school in the city, Hampstead Elementary School, which is public.
